Not only is Sam a fourth-generation automation pioneer and a skilled technologist in many verticals, he is also a credentialed actuary capable of driving strategic technological decisions in the context of risk identification, modeling, and analysis. His deep understanding of engineering disciplines also provides a level of rigor to the modeling and understanding of complex systems. Joseph "Joe" Wehner
(1887 - 1976)
As a child, my Great-Grandpa, Joe, began work at The Cramer Bros Safe Co. of Kansas City, Missouri, where he quickly became a master tool and die worker. When the depression came, he started his own specialty metalworking manufacturing business to support his family and also made a point to have a constant pot of stew on the stove to provide food for others. Eventually, Trans World Airlines (TWA) brought Joe on board in their early days where he was pivotal in many endeavors, including implementing the Sperry automatic pilot system into TWA's fleet. As testament to his trust in the system, he went on the maiden voyage of the aircraft alongside the test pilot, Charles Lindbergh.
Donald "Don" Wehner
(1931 - 1988)
My Grandpa, Don, also started work at Cramer where he learned the tool and die trade. He eventually went on to work for Western Electric where he quickly became a leader in automating various components within their manufacturing processes. He lost a battle with cancer in the late 1980s and his legacy lives on today through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
My Father, Scott, is a first-generation university graduate, earning a degree in Geological Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla, now Missouri University of Science and Technology. His career is steeped in innovation and achievement, including a patent in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technologies. He continues his pioneering mindset to this day, showcased by receiving the Pioneer Award from the PCOR Partnership in 2017 for his pioneering efforts and sharing of expertise in CO2 Enhanced Oil Recovery (CO2-EOR) and Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS), as well as being awarded Texas Engineer of the Year in 2003 from the Texas Society of Petroleum Engineers.
